The Kansas Medication Collection & Disposal Program improves patient safety by providing convenient, safe and environmentally responsible options for disposing of unused and expired medications.

Proper disposal reduces medication accumulation in the home and the subsequent risk of unintentional poisoning, drug abuse and diversion.

Authorized collectors must have a Kansas Board of Pharmacy registration to possess Schedule II controlled substances and a corresponding DEA permit.

Drug Take Back Days

Law enforcement agencies are eligible to host DEA-sponsored Drug Take Back Days to provide a safe, anonymous collection of controlled and non-controlled substances. Other organizations such as pharmacies, hospitals and other local groups can partner with law enforcement to promote the event and medication safety in their communities. Contact your local law enforcement agency to coordinate a Drug Take Back Day in your community.
