K-TRACS MenuAbout K-TRACS
K-TRACS is the prescription drug monitoring program for the state of Kansas. It is used by prescribers and pharmacists as a clinical decision-making tool to promote patient safety and healthy communities through prevention of prescription drug misuse, abuse and diversion.
Established in K.S.A. 65-1681 through 1694, K-TRACS requires pharmacies to report all controlled substances in schedules II-IV and drugs of concern dispensed to Kansas patients on a daily basis. Read all program statutes and regulations.
Using K-TRACS
Prescribers and pharmacists use K-TRACS to evaluate patients’ prescription history. Equipped with this information and used in combination with other medical history and assessments, prescribers and pharmacists can make informed clinical decisions and engage patients in conversations that promote health and safety.
Promote Community Health
Healthcare providers can contribute to creating healthy communities by:
- Adopting K-TRACS usage as part of their standards of care
- Increasing access to naloxone through co-prescribing or dispensing
- Promoting medication collection and disposal sites and Drug Take Back Days
- Understanding statewide prescribing trends
